The group of people who fight the night collectively call themselves Hunters. Most of these men and women have been “touched” by the dark forces known currently as the Shadowblack. Touched individuals are called "The Awakened”, representing their knew knowledge, if lack of understanding, of the supernatural world. The evil forces have begun to corrupt their soul, and it in turn has granted them great power.
All humans who have been awakened bear a stigmata known as The Hunter's Mark. This discolored pattern on the skin often resembles a disease, bad tattoo, scar or birthmark. It is often slightly raised and generally appears on the hands, arms, chest, stomach, or back, but can appear anywhere on the body. When the awakened use their shadow powers the mark glows noticeably. (any stunt, skill use or invoke pertaining to the mark or shadow powers that require a fate point or generates taint)
The marks tend to develop in similar patterns. Hunter circles have begun to collectively name these patterns. The discovered patterns are; The Blade, The Body, The Dreamer, The Shadow, The Shepherd and The Wild. Each pattern grants preternatural abilities to the hunter's skills and allows the hunter to perform some truly amazing things, at the risk of losing their humanity.
NOTE: The Following Info is still subject to change
The Blade
aka the Fist, the Gun, the Soldier, the Spear, the Warrior
The Blade was likely an aficionado of ancient weaponry before their awakening. Even if not, all Blades share one thing in common, a taste for violence and a love for violent tools. Hunters who follow the path of the Blade are sometimes feared and misunderstood by their peers. Where the Body puts themselves in harms way to save others, Blades do so for the sheer thrill, taste of revenge, or something, darker.
A Blade’s weapon is very much an extension of themselves. When put into use, the Blade is a terrible poetry of gore, aggression and grace.
The Body
aka the Guard, the Shield, the Tank, the Tough, the Wall
The Body is the guy who lives knee deep in the hordes of the undead. His powers manifest in ways that allow him to survive the horrors of the night and to protect his less stalwart allies.
Bodies tends to be bold, charging headlong into the fray. This is as practical as it is prideful, their often crazy actions either place the focus on themselves or potentially startle their opponents. After all, who looks like the devil in his eye and laughs?
The Dreamer aka the Brain, the Eye, the Mind, the Medium, the Sleuth, the Thinker
The Dreamer relies on his incredible intellect and intuition in order to decipher the mysteries of the mist, codify that which was not meant to be known, and outsmart ancient intelligence. The Dreamer is the type to connect newspaper articles with bits of string, to notice the innocuous graffiti that is really a portal, or to collapse at dinner when a dark fiend brings him the bill.
The Dreamer is connected to all things, and sees all things as being interconnected. They are excellent at rooting out hidden evil.
The Shade
aka the Face, the Hood, the Moon, the Rogue, the Thief
The shade is also typically adept at manipulating interpersonal relationships. They are great infiltrators, con artists and magicians. No secrets are safe from the Shade. Yet, when they stoke your ire, they are all but impossible to find.
The Shepherd
aka the Devout, the Faithful, the Leader, the Pious, the Seeker, the Seraph
Whether a spiritual leader now cursed with the powers of darkness, a devout follower who has taken up the cloth in their hour of need, or a heretic turned believer, the Shepherd all have one thing in common. They believe someone or something is watching out for us. Even faced with the adversity of dark infection, Shepherds turn to ancient scripture and new age spirituality to guide them, and to protect their flock.
The Wild
aka the Animal, the Beast, the Fae, the Unicorn, the Wolf
Those who bear the mark of the Wild share an affinity with nature and all its primal glory. They are often more at ease with a babbling brook then a boardroom. More likely to hang with a gaggle of geese than twinge of tweens.
Their powers manifest in ways that tie them to nature, albeit in perverted ways. It is not uncommon to witness the Wild leap from rooftop to rooftop, tunnel under a building or track someone down by their scent. Indeed, it is often hard to discern them from the creatures they hunt.
